But now the kids are back at school and life is slowly returning to a new normal, why not reprioritise your family’s health with a little help from me, Nena Foster, a qualified Natural Chef, Food Educator and mum of two?
After years of working in public health, working as a nutritional chef, teaching children and families how to cook and enjoy meals together AND feeding my own family, I want to share with you what I’ve learned!

After the success of the first series, I am running a new and improved Family Gut Nutrition and Cookery Workshop Series. In these sessions I will teach you how to support your family’s health with nutrition-focused cookery sessions. During the six-week online course, we’ll create great, health-focused recipes that the whole family will enjoy, as well you’ll develop a deeper understanding of how to eat to better support your gut – the key to your overall physical and mental health.
The last time I ran this course we all had a blast, and the parents on the course are still using the recipes, tips and tricks that they learned. So what are you waiting for?
The next online series kicks off on October 22nd, 2020 and runs for six consecutive weeks (until November 26th ) from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm. This is a fun space for parents to cook together, chat, gain cooking confidence and ask all the questions you’ve always wanted to ask about cooking and nutrition.
At the end of the session you’ll get an E-book of recipes to cook and enjoy time and time again, as well as handy resources to successfully plan and make healthy family meals and snacks.
What Will We cover?
Week 1: Family gut nutrition: the basics
Let’s get started! We’ll cover the nutrition basics, talk about how to create balanced meals, the role our gut plays in digestion and health and the importance of dietary diversity. And learn how to put this into practice intuitively and without always following a recipe.
Week 2: Family Breakfast Club: healthy breakfasts, healthy starts
We’ll talk about the impact of breakfast on attention and focus and how to make a balanced breakfast easy to pull off, even on those rushed mornings. And we’ll cook some of my balanced breakfast faves.
Week 3: Swapping out convenience foods for healthy homemade snacks
This session will talk about convenience snacking and teach parents how to avoid the packaged snacks as well a touch on the core principles of blood sugar balance and we’ll even do some baking!
Week 4: Eating to support immunity
This session covers the key nutrients for supporting the immune system and you’ll learn where to get these nutrients and in which foods. Then we get cooking and fermenting delicious recipes.
Week 5: Put more veg on your/their plate (and get everyone to eat it)
Learn how to eat more veg and put more veg (and plants-based foods) at the centre of family meals in a way that is delicious and can be enjoyed by all, even the staunchest meat eaters and fussy meal-time pickers.
Week 6: Get the kids in the kitchen
Cooking with your kids can be messy and stressful, but come learn how to make cooking more enjoyable and get your children trying and eating more of the food they help prepare. We’ll make a few of my tried and tested, kid-approved favourites.
